Adaptive Home Logic™ v2.0

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is it possible to evaluate the most recent version, even though the evaluation of previous version has now expired?

A. Yes, installing a newer version of the program resets its demo mode, allowing it to be re-evaluated.

Q. Is the program suitable for other automation applications apart from home automation?

A. Yes, the general purpose nature of the program together with its input / output flexibility and quick response time, makes it ideal for many other applications that could benefit from intelligent autonomous control.

Q. Do you plan to support Insteon or Z-Wave?

A. Yes, in due course we hope to be able to provide direct support for both of these exciting new technologies, in the mean time however it’s possible for Adaptive Home Logic to control Insteon and / or Z-wave modules via a home automation controller.

Q. What is APRS?

A. APRS (Automatic Position Reporting System) uses a Terminal Node Controller (a type of radio modem) to transmit data over a packet radio network. Its primary function permits radio amateurs to automatically report their position, which is then displayed on a computerised map. It can however, also be used to send and receive short text messages. This can be utilised by Adaptive Home Logic to receive instruction and to send alerts & status reports, allowing the system to be remotely monitored & controlled by a mobile radio (with a built-in TNC) independently of anyone else’s communication infrastructure, and because messages are relayed by each station across a packet network, it’s possible to stay in reliable radio contact with the system from a great distance using fairly low powered or even portable equipment. This is particularly useful when the other more conventional forms of communication are simple not available, possible or prohibitively expensive, such as a home automation system on a yacht, RV or at a remote rural location.

Q. Where can I obtain an appropriate input / output board and or home automation peripherals?

A. The application has an extensive list of suppliers, links & other resources within its help file (Other->Resources). Click Download to access this information.

Q. Does the program include any speech voices?

A. Yes, a standard set of Microsoft / Lernout & Hauspie American/English speech voices are installed along with the program. These voices are then immediately available for use by the program. Voices in other languages are also available as a free download.

The speech application program interface and the TTS Engines (voices) are automatically installed along with the program using Microsoft’s / L&H own install setup routines, so as not to overwrite or upset any existing speech applications. Once installed, these voices will also be available for use by other speech capable applications.

Q. What can the program do on a standard PC system, before I get some interfaces to automate my home?

A. Straight out-of-the-box (or off-the-web) Adaptive Home Logic can prove immediately useful by providing you with the sun rise / set times and weather conditions / forecast for your area, as well as reading you the very latest news stories. You could also use the program as a very sophisticated talking alarm clock with hourly chimes, and get it to issue subtle or spoken reminders when a favourite TV programme is about to begin, etc. as well as learning a lot about the program in preparation to getting some home automation peripherals.
